Liga Skromane, 33, went to India to cure her depression but ended up drugged, raped and beheaded and her body was found in a forest hanging upside down from a tree.

Police suspect 2 men are behind the murder, it is alleged that she was lured by 2 men who then drugged her and raped her multiple times and then killed her.

Liga was born in Lativia but grew up in Dublin, Ireland. She went to Kerala, India with her sister in February.

She went there to cure her depression at a ayurvedic ‘healing rejuvenation’ centres.

She had been a few weeks in the country and was last seen at a local beach.

The 2 suspected attackers are local drug dealers and have a history of sexually assaulting woman have been arrested by police.

When Liga’s body was found it had partially decomposed and a post mortem examination did not reveal much information.

“The victim was lured into this area, given drugs and sexually assaulted. She was murdered when she resisted,” officer Manoj Abraham told NDTV.

Liga was living in Ireland with her partner of five years, Andrew Jordan.

Andrew Jordan, 35, feared Liga was kidnapped by organ smugglers and flew to India in March, in a last attempt to find her.

He told media at the time: “I’ve hardly slept thinking about what could have happened to her.

“I’ve walked through those backstreets and there’s a very high chance she was abducted. There is a known organ trafficking trade from that country on the black market.

“Someone could be holding her in a cage in that 35 degree heat. This is what’s going through my head.”

Local media reported that Liga’s body had partially decomposed and was identified by her sister from the clothes she was wearing.

Liga’s sister, Ilze said she did not attend the yoga class and didn’t inform me of where she was going.

Paying tribute to her sister,  Ilze told the media: “She has been through a lot of suffering.”

She wrote on social media: “On April 19 I was praying and praying to God to grant me one birthday wish.

“Please let me know where my sister is, please let us find her, this not knowing is so hard to bear.

“On my birthday 20th of April afternoon two local boys found my sister’s remains.

“It’s been a long journey for my sister, and she has been through a lot of suffering.. may her soul rest in peace now in the hands of all loving God.

“Our love for you My Dear Sister is eternal. We thank you all Dear Sisters and Brothers for all the love and support you have given us through this journey.”

A friend replied:  “I am sorry for the loss of your Sister Liga. May she Rest In Peace. Thank God her remains were found.

“God bless those two little boys and all who raised awareness about Liga. I wish you comfort & peace.”

According to the National Crimes Record Bureau, Rape is the third most common crime in India.

India’s tourism minister, Mahesh Sharma said woman tourists should not wear skirts and walk alone at night time.

“In that kit they are given dos and don’ts,” he said. “These are very small things like, they should not venture out alone at night in small places, or wear skirts, and they should click the photo of the vehicle number plate whenever they travel and send it to friends.”
