Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov has recently opened up about the possible punishment to his son and current UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, for his role in the infamous UFC 229 post-fight melee in Las Vegas.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission has moved the next hearing to January 29 after both UFC stars were granted a continuance in the UFC 229 riot case but Khabib’s father revealed in a recent interview that a lengthy suspension and hefty fine possibly awaits the Russian champ.
After a dominant victory over his bitter rival last October 6, Nurmagomedov went ballistic and flew to the crowd to confront McGregor’s teammate, Dillon Danis. The ‘biggest fight in UFC history’ instantly turned into a night of chaos as bigger brawls sparked inside and outside the T-mobile Arena.
Three members from the Russian camp, who attacked McGregor inside the Octagon, were arrested after the incident but were later released as the Irishman refused to press charges. Meanwhile, The Eagle was the first to feel the wrath of the state commission as it decided to freeze his $2 million paycheck.
Since the night of the brawl, a lot of intriguing developments have been made on the case. Extended suspensions, NSAC returning Khabib’s 50% of his fight purse, both fighters granted with continuances, while the next hearing, which is expected to determine the final verdict for Nurmagomedov and McGregor, is set for early next year. Both UFC stars may have dodged a big bullet for now but the case is still far from over.
Khabib’s Father Reveals Possible NSAC Sanction
Ahead of the NSAC meeting, the father of the undefeatedlightweight champion provided the details of the possible sanction to Khabibfrom the NSAC. He claimed in a recent interview that his son’s camp has alreadyreached a settlement deal about the case. The agreement includes a fine of $500000 and a nine-month ban from competing in the state of Nevada reports ‘RITELY’.
“I don’t know how it will end. As far as I understand, we will get a fine of $500,000 (£396,000), and maybe we could not fight in the next nine months.”
Abdulmanap expressed his dismay over the controversial melee and said they are now looking for other options for Khabib’s next fight.
“Of course, it should have never happened. Now we are just looking forward for a bright future and other lucrative fights.”
Nurmagomedov has been teasing a fight in the boxing ring, with the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr looming as one of his top prospects. ‘The Eagle’ retained his lightweight belt and kept his perfect record intact after submitting ‘The Notorious’ in the main event of UFC 229.
