Zahid Younas of Bradford has been sentenced to jail for assaulting his wife and stealing a mobile phone,
Zahid Younas pleaded guilty to one count of assault and one count of robbery.
James Gelsthorpe, prosecuting said Zahid’s wife came to the UK in 2011 after they got married in Pakistan.
She had only been in the UK for a few months and Zahid was jailed for 2 years.
Mr Glensthorpe added the couple argued last year because zahid would not allow his in the shared bedroom.
Zahid then got violent, he punched and kicked her while she laid on the bed.
Zahid has 8 previous conviction, he was arrested but he denied the allegation then.
He was released on bail, he got drunk and robbed an iPhone of a man on Sinbridge Road.
Zahid was arrested later that day and the iPhone was recovered of him.
Referring to a victim impact statement, Mr Gelsthorpe said the man was left shaken and upset by what happened.
Vincent Blake-Barnard, defending, said Zahid accept his behaviour was unacceptable and regrets his action.
In sentencing him, Recorder Jonathan Sandiford described Younas as a bully and said the attack on his “vulnerable” wife was persistent and said he inferred that he intended to cause her more serious injury.
He said an aggravating feature of the robbery is that he was on bail at the time
Younas was sentenced to two years and three months in jail, was made the subject of a restraining order. A victim surcharge will also have to be paid.
