Alaeldien Ahmed murdered Anthony Banting at a Birmingham tram stop in an unprovoked attack.
Alaeldien Ahmed a paranoid schizophrenic calmly walked away leaving Anthony Banting bleed to death.
Alaeldien Ahmed of Winson Green was found guilty of manslaughter by jury members at Birmingham Crown Court after a two week trial.
Anthony Banting has just left the tram stop when he was attacked by Alaeldien Ahmed on march 31 at around 4:40pm.
Alaeldien Ahmed confronted his victim and then stabbed him 60 times and then walked away from the scene.
Emergency services were called by a member of the public, paramedics tried to save Mr Banting’s life but he died at the scene.
After extensive research by the forensic team they were able to find Mr Banting’s blood on Alaeldien Ahmed’s both shoes.
Senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Paul Langley said: “Mr Banting did not know his attacker; he was an innocent and law-abiding citizen who was heading to meet his son at a local pub in Winson Green.
“His family have been left devastated by the actions of a man he had never met before. In the space of a few minutes, Mr Banting sustained 60 stab wounds. The viciousness and brutally of this attack is deeply shocking.
“We’ll now work with the courts to ensure that the right sentence is handed down to his attacker.”
