A cocaine lover Aktar Uddin 34 of Barlow Street, Barkerend, Bradford caused mother of three children irreversible life changing injuries in a high speed car crash. Mr Uddin was speeding because he was late for his birthday party.
Aktar Uddin did not stop to see if the other car passengers he crashed into were okay. He fled the scene. He later went into the police station and gave him self up – heard Bradford Crown Court.
Adam Walker prosecutor said to the court that Mr Aktar Uddin was driving a Mazda around 9pm towards Cottingley going way over the speed limit which was 30mph.
An anonymous driver reported that before the accident he had seen Mr Uddin overtake other cars at high speeds and was driving on the wrong side of the road around a pedestrian bollard to get past cars.
Bradford Crown Courts heard Mr Uddin smashed head on into a Mercedes vehicle which was on the opposite side of the road.
The front passenger Andrea Gorolova felt the impact that she never experienced before suffering a fracture in her right femur. The car had to be cut into pieces to get her out of the vehicle. Other passengers in the vehicle with her was her partner and 2 children. All were taken to the hospital to be treated.
Mrs Gorolova injuries were quite severe. She had to undergo an operation on her leg. A metal plate had to be inserted. Doctors told that she would have to use crutches for at-least 6 months before she could walk.
Mrs Gorolova said in a statement: I have 3 children and i can not take care of them in my condition. I am in severe pain every day and have to take pain killers and injections to ease the pain. This has had a major impact on my life.
Mr Uddin blood showed 200mg of cocaine per litre of blood, 4 times over the legal limit.
He pleaded guilty of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He told the the police in an interview that he was rushing to a party he was very late for.
He told the police: It was either hit the oncoming car or hit the bollard.
Judge Neil QC said Mr Uddin has left Mrs Gorolova with injuries that will effect her entire life.
He said: Your driving created a substantial risk of danger. You gave oncoming traffic no chance to avoid the head on collision.
Cocaine was found in your blood stream well before the accident.
Mr Uddin was sentenced to serve 2 years in prison with no grounds for a suspending sentence.
After the release of Mr Uddin he will be banned from driving for 3 years.
